Surbiton edged out Nottingham 4-3 on Surbiton's flat, hard-surfaced and firmly-hooped lawns today. Error-free croquet was not on the menu and the fact that the match started at 1100 and the decisive single between Chris Farthing and Ailsa Lines ended after 1800 is eloquent comment that AC can be as interactive as anyone could wish in suitable playing conditions.
