One-Ball Handicapping

The purpose of the One-Ball handicapping system is to allow AC and GC players to play One-Ball on a level playing field. It was researched and developed by Kevin Carter (organiser of The National Charity One-Ball competition), and was formally adopted by Croquet England in 2018.

These One-Ball handicap rules conform to the Laws as modified by the Tournament Regulations as follows:

1. First, AC handicaps below 2 are adjusted as follows:

   AC Handicap	1½	1	½	0	-½	-1	-1½	-2	-2½	-3
   One-Ball Handicap	1	0	-1	-2	-3	-4	-5	-6	-7	-8

2. Then take the lowest of:
   • the adjusted AC handicap
   • if GC handicap above zero: 2.5 x GC handicap, otherwise GC handicap
   • 20
3. The number of bisques given is one-third of the difference between the players' handicaps with any fraction rounded to the nearest half-bisque

Players may wish to use the online Handicap Calculator, however, as this is not maintained by Croquet England, if there is a discrepancy with the calculation using the method described in the latest GC Rules, AC Laws and Tournament Regulations, the Croquet England method is paramount.
