I've been playing croquet since the mid 90's so am a relative newcomer. I am a member of Beverley and East Riding CC, where I was secretary and treasurer for many years. I am also a member at York CC.
I have been active in the Yorkshire Federation since starting to play, representing my club and acting as Development Officer and Coaching Officer. Currently I am Federation Chairman.
I have always taken a keen interest in coaching and am a grade 2 coach. I play an active role in the Northern Academy delivering a couple of courses each year. I do lots of ad hoc coaching at my own clubs and have visited most of the clubs in our Federation. I believe Federations must enthusiastically encourage competitive play in both GC and AC. Through the Federation I have actively supported the development and trialling of a unified handicapping index to bring the Short Croquet and Association Croquet handicapping systems together onto a single card.
In my playing career I have travelled widely in the country playing mainly AC advanced but now also GC. This has greatly broadened my understanding of the croquet world. As a member of the CA Council I would seek to further the CA priorities of supporting both GC and AC in equal measure; encouraging competitive play; supporting the development of women in croquet; streamlining governance and strengthening communication; and, not least, promoting an increase nationally in the overall numbers taking up this engaging game.
My professional experience as an agricultural consultant specialising in cereal production and business management underlined the importance of working towards shared priorities through teamwork. I encouraged and facilitated grant applications from producers and community groups for projects including development, training and new initiatives. I also enjoy photography and local affairs.
