East Anglia Council Constituency

Uncontested Nominees

Brian Havill

I am standing for election as one of the twelve voting members of the new Council as I feel that I have the professional and volunteering experience to add value.

I have had a varied career since qualifying as an accountant in the mid-1980s with a major accountancy firm PriceWaterhouseCoopers - including three years with PWC in Australia.

My first role out of accountancy practice was with HI-TEC Sports Shoes, first as Group Financial Controller and then as Chief Operating Officer of its fastest-growing subsidiary.

I moved away from accountancy to director level general management roles during four years with Pentland Group (owners of Speedo, Ellesse, Kickers and several other sports and fashion brands) and then, in 2000, became Finance Director of The England & Wales Cricket Board where I was for 15 years. I am now Deputy Chief Executive of Swim England.

I have a keen and active interest in sport and took up croquet at the age of 50 after a series of knee operations. In a voluntary capacity, I have served on the Councils of the Lawn Tennis Association and the Surrey County LTA. My roles included vice chair of the national LTA's Professional Tennis Board.

In 2017 I became a member of the current CA Council as the representative of the East Anglian Croquet Federation and in 2018 was asked onto the Management Committee. I chair the Publications Committee.

Other voluntary roles that I currently do are:

I am excited about the potential opportunity to shape the future of croquet in this country. I started playing croquet properly again in 2013, a gap of 21 years having dabbled at University. I am passionate about improving the quality of play and also increase the opportunities that people have to enjoy their croquet in both forms of the game. I quickly became involved in coaching and in 2014 qualified as a Grade 1 Golf and Association croquet coach.

In 2015 I had the pleasure of running some one day croquet psychology courses for the Croquet Academy in Sussex and did the same in 2016, 2017 and 2019. I have also run this course at Nottingham, Maldon and Colchester. I really enjoy coaching and teaching and being able to put something back into the game.

I have also been a member of the International Development Squad for AC and have provided mindset expertise for both the AC and GC Development squads on a voluntary basis, as well as the England AC squad. This year I was appointed IPD for Association Croquet.

I am a strong supporter of croquet in my region. Being an active member of AC and GC teams as well as participating in the Winter indoor events at Soham. I have also served on the committee at Colchester Croquet Club.

Outside of croquet I am a business coach and enjoy helping to create vision and strategy for organisations. I believe my coaching and facilitation skills would be useful to Council in forming vision and strategy.

I am also a volunteer for Robbins Research International who run world-leading personal development events around the world. I am one of only two Senior Trainers in the UK and enjoy working in this environment which continues to utilise my communication and leadership skills.
