16th May (GC)

A blustery and chilly wind persisted throughout the day of this tournament which was keenly contested by a full field of 16 participants.

Block winners were David G Hill and Henry Hobbs (both of Enfield), Rob Chatwin (Wingrave) and Jane Tewson (Long Eaton Park). They were joined in the knockout phase byRoger Stroud and Jean Ball ( both of Leighton-Linslade) , David Wicks (Ipswich) and Gavin Taylor (Merton). Those missing the cut included top seed Mike Bilton (Richmond Park) and last year's winner, Louise Taylor (Merton).

Strength in numbers prevailed in the Quarter Finals with wins for Enfield's David G and Henry and Leighton-Linslade's Roger and Jean. The Semi-Finals pitched club mates against each other and the higher handicappers prevailed. David G (5) beat Henry(4) by 7-4. Jean(5) pipped Roger (4) 7-6.

Jean's play had been improving steadily throughout the day and she took a clear lead in the Final by 5 hoops to 2. However, David G had proved to be the fightback specialist and he clawed his way back to win by 7 hoops to 6. Both players deserved and received engraved glasses from the host club as a reward for their efforts.

The Plate competition was won by Andrea Huxley(Guildford and Godalming).

Finishing Order:
1. David G Hill
2. Jean Ball
3. Henry Hobbs
4 Roger Stroud.
