Welcome to another croquet year. 2019 is just as packed as previous years - perhaps slightly more so - and will provide plenty of opportunities for players of all standards.
This year will see the introduction of the GC Federations Shield, a new inter-club GC tournament. Each Federation may select one Club to enter based on the results of the Federation's handicap competitions in 2018. We hope each Federation will enter a team.
In AC, the South of England Week, which is one of the oldest fixtures in the CA calendar, has had a re-vamp for this season. It consists of a 3-day handicap and a weekend class event (plus handicap and advanced One-Ball), so do please consider entering one or both of the main events.
The Short Croquet Inter-Club Competition, introduced last year at very short notice, is now fully established so all clubs, big and small, are encouraged to persuade their high-handicap players to make a team of 4 and have a go at a national competition.
We are also hosting two World Championships in 2019. The Under-21 GC World Championship will be held at Nottingham on 20-24 July, and the WCF Simon Carter GC World Championship will be based at Sussex County from 27 July-4 August. If you are not playing yourself, it is well worth popping in to watch - there should be some high-quality Golf Croquet on display from the world's best GC players.
Alongside the raft of AC and GC tournaments throughout the year, there is also an increasing number of AC and GC coaching opportunities for all players at the three coaching academies (the Northern Academy based at York, the Croquet Academy at Sussex County, and the South West Croquet Academy at Budleigh Salterton). Please do take a look at what they have to offer - there is something there for everyone.
Enjoy your croquet year.
