As the world gradually changes from paper to electronics, the CA Fixtures Book will only be printed for those who request a copy by the 31st December each year. The online Fixtures Calendar, which has been running in parallel for a number of years, will now be the main source of information regarding the myriad of AC and GC tournaments around the country and the increasing number of coaching opportunities for all players, whatever their skill level, at the three coaching academies based at York, Sussex County, and Budleigh Salterton.
The GC Federations Shield, which was introduced last year as a new inter-club GC tournament, was very successful and will retain its inaugural format. The National Short Croquet Competition, introduced in 2018, has had a revamp and will be run on similar lines with each Federation selecting one Club to enter based on the results of their own internal competitions. We hope each Federation will enter a team in both these competitions.
In AC, the South of England Week, which is one of the oldest fixtures in the CA calendar, has struggled for entries in the last few years. It will be replaced this year with a 14-point weekend, hosted at Compton (Eastbourne). We hope this quick-fire 'T20' version of croquet will be attractive to existing and new tournament players alike.
In GC, there has been a slight adjustment to the list of English National Series Championship qualifiers: Surbiton has dropped out and Hunstanton has taken its place.
We hope your croquet year is successful and, more importantly, enjoyable.
