The GC Open (unrestricted) Series is one of 5 tiers of Golf Croquet Series in the CA calendar, each a season-long competition that groups together certain tournaments of a similar class. Players can achieve direct qualification to a National Final by way of performance in a qualifying tournament. Most of these Series lead to a National Final, while the Open Series is a straight 'points race' with no National Final.

The hierarchy of Series tournaments is:

1. The Championship Series................... - 8 Championship tournaments, leading to the English National Singles Championship Final (for the 'Ascot Cup').
2. The Open (Unrestricted) Series...... - 14 Open tournaments (unrestricted), it is a straight 'points race'. There is no National Final.
3. The A-Level (0+) Series..................... - 15 tournaments restricted to handicaps 0+, leading to a National Final.
4. The B-Level (3+) Series..................... - 25 tournaments restricted to handicaps 3+, leading to a National Final.
5. The C-Level (7+) Series..................... - 24 tournaments restricted to handicaps 7+, leading to a National Final.

The Open Series competition rules

1. There is no National Final for the Open Series - the winner will be the player who accumulates the most points in the Series tournaments from finishing first (10 points), second (6 points), third (4 points) or fourth (2 points). See the current standings below.
2. If a third/fourth place play-off is declined by one player but not the other, the player willing to play will be placed third and the unwilling player fourth (with Series points awarded as above). If neither player is willing to play, both players will score only 2 points each.
3. If there is a tie on Series points after the last tournament, the Series winner shall be the player who has scored the greatest number of tournament wins, followed (in order) by the greatest number of second, third and fourth places.

Procedures for Dealing with entries in the GC Open Series, A-Level (0+), B-Level (3+) and C-Level (7+) Series Tournaments

1. Tournament Regulations C3a 1 and 2 shall apply:
2. 1. Attention is drawn to C3a2A in particular, which details that two priority places shall be made available to players who are U25 Members of the CA, subject to such players meeting the applicable handicap restrictions of the competition.
   2. Additionally, in the case of unrestricted events (ie. the Championship and Open Series), a priority-placed U25 Member of the CA should have a handicap of 2 or better.
   3. The above U25 Member of the CA rule shall NOT apply to any National Final.
3. Tournament Regulation C3a3C shall NOT apply. Instead, players with the highest-ranking GC CGS DGrade on the allocation date shall be selected.
4. Thereafter, the remainder of Regulation C3 shall apply.
