Final - A Brief Report
Aiton had a slow start - forgivable since he had a four-hour wait for his oppo to emerge. We join the action with Aiton's clips on 2 (red) & 4 (yellow) against 2 (blue) and 4-back (black). Keith sets up a break for red and starts on a TPO, despite the hoop 4 pioneer being 4 yards SE of the hoop. Also the 4-back peel was from about ten feet! This was jawsed, then rush-peeled after 5. Penult was peeled before 1-back (as per Wylie 1.55 (p35)). A slight flaw in Aiton's precision meant no rover peel before 3-back, so it had to be straight. This was executed and the TPO completed. The contact leave was yellow a yard or so NW of corner 4, red in corner 1.
Blue takes off from red to get some sort of rush on yellow. Hoop 2 is made, but hoop 3 is only grovelled through. A ten-yarder at yellow is missed into corner 4.
Yellow goes into corner 1 (near red).
Blue shoots at red (26 yards), and misses narrowly.
Yellow embarks on a 2-and-a-half ball break, gradually winkling out the third ball from 1st corner. By 3-back Aiton was in ideal position, and duly finished to win his first Du Pre cup.
