Bob Burnett, from Southport, won the Crake Valley Croquet Club's new trophy, the Cavendish Clock, at Greenodd last weekend, 13/14 August. The trophy, a handsome clock set in a beautiful piece of polished local slate, was donated by Burlington Slate Ltd. (where our own Dave Nick is a valued worker). Lord Cavendish presented it to the club during the final afternoon. Mark Southern, the club's honorary president and owner of the estate from which the grounds are rented, later presented the trophy to the winner.

Bob Burnett (-1), beat Mark Miller (2), club chairman and tournament manager, 2-0 in the best-of-three final. Mark made him work hard in the first game, but Bob ran away with the second.

In the semi-finals, Bob beat Crake Valley's Peter Wardle +20; Mark had the narrowest possible win over Tony Foster from Edinburgh. Six other players, from Guildford, Edinburgh, Southport and Bury, took part, and apart from flooded lawns on the Saturday morning a very good time was had by all.
