This year, the Bayeux Cup was a tournament of surprises. The conditions were relatively easy, with the heavy rain during the week, slowing the pace of the courts down to a comfortable speed. This would suggest that the lower handicap players should have dominated but this failed to be the case, with notable wins for some of the higher bisquers.
Gina Lewis (handicap 6) reached the semi final before succumbing to Tony Foster.
Peter Spiller was also devastating, accounting for players as low as handicap 1.
The star of the show was 82-year-old Brian Rees who turned up not having entered the competition but due to a late retirement was able to play. Brian then was relentless in his play and made the semi-final easily and then beat Peter Spiller in a close encounter.
Brian then beat Tony in a drawn out game of few breaks. Brian was also a finalist in this tournament 4 years ago on a handicap of 9.
Another notable feat was John Male's silver and gold awards in successive games.
