Jersey Open week and Open Championship

[<<] [>>] by Tony Le Moignan
24th July 2006 (AC)

Very hot weather throughout the week with just an hour or so of rain in 7 days. Great to see the manager, Cliff Jones, up and about again, and looking well. Excellent book just written by Richard Sowerby (JCC Chairman) - "Croquet in Jersey" announced at the opening ceremony (ISBN 1 903341 48 6). Details show that the Jersey Croquet Club celebrates it's 140th anniversary this year, and that the first Jersey Open took place in 1911 (winner - Col. C.G. Vatcher). The all Jersey final today meant a local winner for the first time since the last millennium - indeed, a first non-South African winner since the last millennium. NB R. Bamford on holiday in Majorca this week.

A good time had by one and all - sign up early for next year.
