I am very pleased to tell you all that the popularity of this event has increased dramatically and we now have 13 entries, including one joint entry. Unfortunately no matter how we look at formats, the maximum we should take using all eleven lawns at Southwick and giving a programme without too many byes is 12. Even this will involve at least one bye per team. Whilst we intend to look at the possible use of joint venues for future years, it is not practicable for 2008, and a limit of twelve teams will have to remain.
As the Fixtures Book states, individual qualification for GC Inter-Counties should follow the AC Inter Counties (ACIC) conditions; it therefore seems logical that we should also adopt the AC IC conditions for dealing with over-subscription of teams. Accordingly a ballot or play off will have to be take place for allocation of the twelve places from the thirteen entries.
Those who fielded a team in the previous year will however take precedence.
As it is possible that one or more counties may have difficulty in raising a team, I have asked all Organisers to check their potential players and formally confirm their entry before we consider a ballot or play off. We will not ask for payment of the entry fee until the published date, but any team that withdraws subsequently will automatically lose priority for entry in future years. Please see the conditions for the AC Inter Counties (pages 22-24 in Fixtures Calendar)
