(CqE Official News)
The CA Council met on 15th December 2001. This report is based on the minutes of that meeting. Further information on any item may be obtained from the CA Secretary, Nigel Graves.
Selection
A Golf Croquet Selection Committee has been established. For 2002 the members are Bill Arliss, David Hopkins, Derek Old, Chris Sheen and Stephen Mulliner. In future, Council will elect this committee and its Chairman at its first meeting after the AGM.
The existing Selection Committee has been renamed Association Croquet Selection Committee. These two committees will have at least one member in common.
Website
Purposes of the CA Website are:
- to provide relevant information about croquet matters and the CA to individual associates, member clubs and existing players
- to advertise the sport to the general public, giving information about the game and where to play it within the CA's domain
- to promote the CA and its services to potential members and users of them
- to give information about and contacts with the CA to journalists and potential sponsors or funding bodies
- to provide promotional opportunities to advertisers e.g. equipment manufacturers
- to reduce the cost to the CA of publishing certain information to its members
Limited information about facilities offered by non-member clubs may be held on this site provided the relevant Federation has approved the information. These entries will be clearly distinguished from those of member clubs and the Membership Committee will set a suitable charge.
Office Relocation
Planning applications have been submitted to the local councils at Surbiton, Cheltenham and Southwick. A Special Meeting of Council has been called to select the location of the new Office. It is expected that the construction will be completed before the CA staff have to leave Hurlingham. Once the decision has been made a Building Appeal Fund will be launched.
Committee Items
It was agreed:
- to confirm to the WCF that we will hold the World Championships in 2005 (International)
- to provide a better level of hospitality to teams from other Associations that visit to play International matches (Tournament)
- to establish a Lawns Advisory Group, which will report to the Development Committee. At least one member of that Committee will serve with this Group. The members of this Group are John Beech, George, Noble and Bob Whitaker, plus Hamish Hall or another member of the Development Committee
- that Bill Arliss be appointed as the CA representative to the WCF Golf Croquet Rules Committee with the aim of establishing one set of Laws for Golf Croquet for all levels of play and acceptable to all Governing Bodies
Matters for Information
David Openshaw has been elected to the Management Committee of the WCF.
The Commonwealth Games Federation Committee will include croquet in their next review of recognised sports.
