Twenty four veterans, with many from the further points of England and one from South Africa, enjoyed a three day advanced handicap tournament at Hurlingham from 9-11 September; we were lucky with the weather with lovely sunshine on the Tuesday and Wednesday with only the Thursday being overcast all the time but no rain.

Eight 70-and-under played a fiercely fought American block with two on five wins and two on four wins. Mike Bowser (Hunstanton) emerged the winner having beaten John Reynolds (Ealing) who became the Runner Up. Su Davies (Roehampton) was third having beaten Ann Stephens (Hurlingham).

The older veterans played a 6-round Swiss with the Manager surprising himself and others (with many mutterings of a fix) winning all six of his matches.

There were two players, John Pollard (East Dorset) and Bob Stephens (Hurlingham), who at the start of the final round were both on four wins, fighting for second place with John winning the battle.
