2015 (GC - Murphy Shield)
On paper, the teams were evenly matched; each having handicaps 2, 3, 3 and 7. A close contest was anticipated. What was not anticipated was the bizarre weather that was about to descend! The morning matches were all over in two games, with Sussex taking the doubles and G&G winning the two singles. There was, it seemed, time to make a start on the afternoon singles before lunch. Cue the weather! Very heavy rain and a drop in temperature to 8 degrees made any further progress impossible. The courts were ponding and the teams simply had to sit it out and wait for the improvement that the weathermen had promised. By 2pm, the rain had stopped, and within half an hour the G&G rapidly-draining courts had become playable again. Unfortunately for the visitors, the home team had become unplayable, and G&G took all four afternoon singles. The good news was that before the end of the match everybody was basking in glorious sunshine!
Results (G&G first) were as follows.
Barry Gould and Mike Huxley lost to David and Daphne Gaitley 3-7, 4-7
