Tyneside lost to Ashby 3-4

[<<] [>>] by Mick Haytack at Tyneside CC
22nd June 2015 (GC - Murphy Shield)

The weather did not look very promising but although it was cold for the time of year, the rain held off. The match could not have been closer with both teams' handicaps totalling exactly the required 12. Ashby were 2-1 ahead at lunchtime but Tyneside responded well by winning the first game in three of the four afternoon singles. They won two of the first three singles to finish, leaving the match tied at 3-3. Meanwhile Derek Buxton had won the second game against Colin and the score in the third was 4-4. Derek played very steadily and completed a 7-5 win to put Ashby through by the narrowest of margins. The "hoop score" in the four singles was 54-54. Tyneside provided marvellous hospitality and we look forward to welcoming them to Ashby should the teams meet again. Ashby will now play a home tie against Durham.
