Ian Lines won the Pendle Advanced Weekend

[<<] [>>] by Abdul Ahmad
15-16 Jun 2002 (AC)

Friday 14 June

8.30am to 7pm - 2 inches of rain fell. Hoop positions relocated. Boundary river swollen. Burst its banks. Water spilled onto the lawns. Lawns flooded. Unable to mow the lawns.

7.30pm to 9.30pm - Sun appeared. Rain ceased. River still raging torrents. Floods receding. Lawns water-logged. Roger Schofield and the Manager use a shovel and bucket to successfully empty the lake formed on the least affected Lawn No.2. Grass too wet to cut.

Saturday 15 June

6.45am to 9.15 am - Overcast but dry conditions. Heroics performed by Jeff Whittaker (Lawn mowing), Roger Schofield and the Manager (Lawns setting and white lining). A miraculous transformation achieved! Decision not to cancel rewarded.

9.30am - Play began. Conditions reasonable but for a brief showery period.

10pm - Both Semi-Finals games pegged down!!

Sunday 16 June

Mostly bright, warm and sunny. Overcast with a little drizzle late afternoon.

OVERALL: Weather was kind. Lawns were good. Catering was superb. Play was over cautious and slow. High-light was the only Triple Peel achieved by Ian Lines when 1 game down in the best of 3 games final.
