The sun shone brightly for the start of Sidmouth's annual June Tournament.
In the Handicap singles, which was played in 4 American Blocks. The semi-finalists were:
Georgeen Hemming (Colchester CC) last year's winner and Jonathan Toye (Downham CC) and Chris Donovan (Budleigh Salterton/Sidmouth CC's) and Bill Humphreys (Golden Square, Victoria, Australia CC). The final was between Jonathan and Bill - both on their first visit to Sidmouth CC. Bill won convincingly +24 for the Dwerryhouse Cup.

On Friday more players arrived for the start of the Class Event.
In Block A for the Challenge Cup, Dave Mundy (Sidmouth CC) and Colin Hemming
(Colchester CC) were both on 5/6 but in the penultimate game Colin had beaten Dave, so on who beat whom, was declared the winner.
In Block B local player Mike Taylor was in great form winning all 6 games for the David Rawkins Cup. Last year's winner Richard Williamson (Bristol CC) was runner-up with 4/6.
In Block C, Kathy Wallace (Nailsea CC) was the winner with 5/6, the runner-up was last year's winner Philip Harris (Sidmouth CC) on 4/6 - Philip having narrowly beaten Brian Shorney (Eardisley CC) also on 4/6 by +1 the day before.

On Saturday players, some with their non-playing spouses, attended a Tournament Dinner at the Bedford Hotel, where everyone was able to relax and have a very enjoyable evening .
It was good to see so many new players this year join those who have been returning to this tournament for many years - which resulted in a lot on camaraderie and good hearted banter. For cricket fans when their game was finished there was the added attraction of cricket matches over the weekend with a ladies match on the Sunday.
