This was the second year of the Roehampton Invitational . It again attracted a very strong field. With eight players, it was played as a two life event with best-of-three matches. This was followed by quarter-finals and semi-finals, which were also best-of-three and a best-of-five final.

The last match finished in the dark, but eight games in a day is not bad for a slow old player!

Dyer bt Maugham +25tp +15

Final

The scores don't tell the full story. In game one Bamford attempted a three-ball quadruple peel . But he finally and reluctantly had to use Dyers ball in corner four after he failed to get position for 3 back with his peelee barely through the jaws of four-back. In game two he laid for an octuple but Dyer hit the leave. In game 3, he laid for a sextuple on the third turn with the peelee in the jaws of 1-back but Dyer hit in on this ball from B-baulk. But Dyer was unable to make the most of his chance and Bamford finished in style.
