29th August 2002 (AC - Championships)

David Maugham won The Northern Championship, beating Chris Clarke in the final (3-1). The drying conditions led to faster lawns which combined with a freshly set lawn (following fox damage) led to a few errors early in the final before both players settled down.

Both semi-finals went to a deciding game. Colin Irwin lost out to Chris, while Mark Avery failed to overcome the sixth seed.

Colin Irwin beat Jonathan Kirby in the plate final.

One completed sextuple (in the first round, by David Maugham), many failed attempts by several players.
