When new flat green bowls lawns were laid for the 2002 Commonwealth Games they were not expected to host a croquet tournament. But over the weekend of April 26 -27th, the 2003 "North West Millennium Croquet Championship" will be played on this site at Heaton Park in Manchester.
Geoff Young, tournament manager said "We are delighted that Manchester City Council has given croquet players the opportunity to use this superb facility. We are also grateful to the bowls clubs for sharing their lawns with another sport."
Play will start at 9.30am on both days and continue throughout the day. Spectators will be very welcome and the competitors, drawn from across the North West are looking forward to an excellent series of games over the weekend.

Note to Editor
Croquet is played competitively throughout the world. British players are among the best with over 40 of them in the top 100 worldwide.
The game is administered by the Croquet Association and the independent regional federations hold regular tournaments, which attract a high quality of entries.
There are 11 croquet clubs in the North West region including three in Greater Manchester
