Clive Goode won the Edgbaston Tompkinson Shield

[<<] [>>] by Clive Goode at Edgbaston
23rd August 2022 (AC)

Eight players (with a handicap range of -0.5 -> 4) gathered at the ever welcoming Edgbaston Croquet club to compete for the Tompkinson Shield. The weather was glorious and the lawns (initially quite slow but speeding up as the temperature increased) were in good condition and showing evidence of recent watering. After last year's experiment with Draw and Process the manager reverted to a more traditional Swiss.

Day 1 ended with Robbie Dodds the only undefeated player on 3 out of 3, with 2 games having to be pegged down. Day 2 began with one of the most exciting games of the weekend with Robbie narrowly beating Ian Slater in a 3.5 hour tussle. The afternoon session saw Robbie (now on 4/4) playing Clive Goode (3/4) in the final with Clive eventually triumphing to take the 21st running of the tournament.

Huge thanks to Andrew Gregory for managing in his usual unflappable way and to the Edgbaston Croquet Club for their customary warm and friendly welcome.
