Displaying World Ranking Data: DGrades

[<<] [>>] by Alison Maugham
8th May (CqE Official News)

We are delighted to announce an upgrade to our online systems that displays the AC and GC Dynamic Grades (DGrades) of all players alongside their handicap.

Any player who has had a level-play game recorded in the world ranking system has a DGrade. This recording occurs automatically for CqE fixtures calendar tournaments, and for federation matches.

We thank Dave Kibble for the continued improvement of our online systems, and this development has been warmly received by tournament officials and GC Series players in particular.

The DGrades are taken from the World Croquet Federation ranking system once per day, just after midnight. It can therefore be used by tournament managers and players in an event to gauge the standard of participants, whilst also providing a useful and instant assessment to check differences between handicap and ranking DGrade. By allowing clear access to player identity and ranking status, this valuable information saves time, reduces volunteer effort and helps avoid misidentification.

Players are identified in the ranking system by a unique Ranking Name, which may differ from the name recorded in the CqE Membership Database. If this applies to you, please log in, check your Ranking Name, and update it if necessary.

If you have never played in a ranking fixture, you do not need to take any action. If you have entered your first ranking fixture but have not yet played, you may wish to choose a unique preferred name to appear in the ranking list alongside your full name. A common convention is to use a preferred version of your name (e.g. Richard might use Ric) or to include a middle initial.

Before doing so, please check that the name is not already being used by another player in the ranking list, and ensure that your initials are up to date in the CqE database. The list of Ranking Names may be found on the WCF site https://rank.worldcroquet.org/gcrankdg/play_list.php?rank_code=false for GC and AC http://butedock.com/cgs/play_list.php. Note that the World Croquet Federation owns the ranking data, and if the ranking website were unavailable then the data would not be imported to the Croquet England subscribers' website that day.
