Leicester Dominates Chester in Sweeping 5-1 InterClub Victory

A fiercely contested GC InterClub Tier 2 clash saw Leicester claim a decisive 5-1 home victory over rivals Chester. Despite both teams entering the fixture evenly matched with identical handicap spreads (1, 2, 3, and 5), the hosts capitalised on home turf advantage. Eager to beat a dismal weather forecast, the Chester squad arrived an hour early, but their enthusiasm was quickly met by Leicester's swift hospitality and an immediate start to play. The morning session set a competitive tone, with Leicester's Paul and Mark securing a hard-fought three-game doubles match, while Alison claimed a straight-games singles win. Chester's captain, Edward, earned their lone morning point after a tense tie-breaker against Richard.

Following a substantial lunch, Leicester clinical execution in the afternoon singles quickly put the tie out of reach. Mark secured a straight-games victory over Sarah, while Paul renewed an old rivalry with Chester's Sam, clinching the match-winning point in a tight 7-3, 7-6 battle. Richard added to the tally with a comfortable 7-3, 7-3 win over Andy. Though Edward managed a consolation singles win for Chester against Alison, the overall result was already sealed. Remarkably, the forecast rain never arrived, and the entire tournament was wrapped up by 2:00 PM, sending the visitors home early after an exceptionally spirited and enjoyable day of top-tier croquet.
