Angharrad Walters won the Peterson Cup

[<<] [>>] by Ian Lines at Bowdon
5th June (AC)

Angharrad Walters won the Peterson Cup at the Bowdon Advanced Weekend on 30-31 May 2026. The lawns seem to have improved from last year, running at about 10 Plummers, and with the firmly set hoops and Invictus balls (kindly donated by the late Colin Irwin) the courts provided a good challenge. In the first round Alan Dix had a good win over Andrew Winn, and David Magee beat Roger Brooks, but otherwise it went with seeding - although Ged Smolskas had four finishing turns before losing -2 to Neil Adams. The second round went with seeding, although Ian Lines only had a narrow +2 escape over James Hawkins. In the best-of-three semi-finals Neil Adams beat Ian Lines -5tp, +26, +5tp in a good quality match with only about 2 errors in total - Neil's superior shooting proving decisive. Angharrad Walters was playing very solidly and beat Debbie Lines in the other semi-final +22, +25. There was only time for a single game final, which Angharrad won +5 in a closely fought battle, with Neil uncharacteristically sticking in penult on a finishing tp. The Plate was run as a flexible Swiss/Egyptian, and was convincingly won by Roger Brooks with 4/5.
