MacRobertson Shield Day 11 - Groundhog Day
[<<] [>>] by England Team
at Sussex County Croquet Club
3rd August
(The MacRobertson Shield)
Team England had another fantastic winning day. Despite England having already won the test, there were some great performances.
Tom Balding quickly dispatched Jamie Burch with an excellent display of shooting and controlled break play. James Death was next to win beating Zack Watson 2-0. He even tried an ambitious sextuple peel which came to grief after 3 peels. Mark Avery beat Kyle in 3 games and Jack Good beat Stephen Morgan, also in 3. Jack showing great control to complete 2 triple peels
Match of the day was certainly Robert Fulford vs Matthew Essick. They shared the first 2 very tight games with -2 and +1. Robert finishing a lovely all round 3-ball break to win the second plus 1. Robert went round first in game 3. Matthew hit, something we've all been getting used to, and completed a tpo, an impressive feat given the conditions. A cat and mouse 3 ball ending resulting in a victory for Matthew. Last to finish was Samir Patel vs Ben Rothman. Samir completing an excellent all round 3 ball break to take victory 2-1.
A special mention should go to Stephen Forster who played his 100 MacRobertson Shield match.
