In the morning, a strong doubles combination of David Haslam (4) and Margaret Selmes (12) overcame James Skelton (4) and the evergreen Owen Bryce +11 whilst in two tightly fought singles George Winder
(5) beat Trevor Wilkins (10) by +2 and Cheryl Stephenson (8) beat the rapid improver Roy Sheffield (12) also by +2. Colchester were therefore rather flattered to be 3-0 ahead at the lunch break.
In the afternoon David had an almost faultless game beating James +26 in whirlwind fashion whilst Owen from Northampton took little longer to outwit George Winder +4. The other two games were a test of stamina with Trevor beating Cheryl +7 whilst Margaret took every minute of the three and a half hours to beat Roy +12 as time was called. In all an excellent day's croquet on some fine turf.
