31st August 2004 (GC - Inter-Club)

Ashby playing in this event for the third time hosted their first match at home welcoming Tyneside. Inspired team selection paired Tim King and Ray Mounfield against Derek Old and John Moore. Tim proved to be as capable as John in long distance clearances which, together with accurate play from Ray Mounfield enabled the Ashby pair to sneak home in a nail biting 7-6, 7-6.

In the morning singles, Mike O'Brian saw off dogged resistance from Jaqui Old winning in two games and an equally close contest was won by Nick Mounfield against Nora Burridge.

Starting 3-0 in front in the afternoon gave the Ashby played belief in their ability to compete against the more experienced Tynesiders. Whilst all the matches went to three games only Jaqui Old was able to achieve a result for the visitors coming back well to beat Nick Mounfield 6-7, 7-5, 7-2.
