Jonathan Kirby wrote to the Nottingham list "Congratulations to Robert Fulford on winning the New Zealand Open Singles for the third time. A very impressive set of scores: in the four knockout rounds, all best of three, he played four test players and dropped only one hoop point in total. Was that a POP I wonder? How many times did his opponents take croquet?"

Rob replied "Peter Parkinson made hoop 1 himself then missed a long cut towards 2. Robert Lowe also took croquet, off a contact leave, but left me a 15 yarder and I hit in again. Pretty amazing stat was my opponents in the knockout stage hit(?) a combined 0/14."
