English Week Tournament, West Palm Beach

[<<] [>>] by Richard Hoskyns at NCC Florida
9-13 February 2005 (International)

The third English Week Tournament was held at the National Croquet Centre in West Palm Beach, Florida from 9-13 February 2005. 15 Brits enjoyed the hospitality of and the excellent lawns at the NCC together with 2 Canadians and on any day 13 Americans. The locals said the weather was freezing but to the Brits the weather was just like an English summer with no rain although at times windy. This year the Brits were not so strong as previous years and the Americans were well represented in the prizes.

The A-class event was won by Keith Jones of the USA with Lois Nel - an escapee from the cold of Ottawa - the runner-up.

The B class was won by Jim Taylor of the USA with John Kennedy of Beverley & East Riding the runner up.

Deirdre Duggan of Bristol prevailed in the C class with David Collie of the USA the runner up.

The handicap was won by Dick Knapp on leave from the UK with John Kennedy as runner up.

The fun doubles were won by Les Kershaw of Cheltenham and Tony Whateley of Glasgow with Rick Sheely (USA) and Audrey Porter (Hurlingham) as runners up.
