Despite being outnumbered by locals it was visitors who scooped the prizes at the Budleigh Salterton May handicap tournament, held over two days of the Bank Holiday weekend in mostly sunny conditions. The lawns were mostly easy paced, with a few dry patches emerging.
John Daniels (Purley Bury, 4) beat Ian Wilson (Cornwall, 9) to win the knockout final. Jonathan Lacey (Hamptworth, 10), playing in his first tournament, won the consolation Egyptian event. Ian Wilson won the prize for the fastest game.
The tournament was smoothly run by Julie Horsley and Peter Jones, and, as ever, the Budleigh hospitality was first class, making the visitors feel very welcome.
