Surbiton beat East Dorset at Guildford & Godalming 4-0

[<<] [>>] by Stephen Mulliner at Guildford & Godalming
18th July 2005 (AC - Inter-Club)

The only weekend that both sides could raise a decent team was also a weekend when both clubs were fully occupied with tournaments. So we held it at Guildford & Godalming as a neutral venue. Conditions were excellent - hard, straw-coloured courts which were distinctly quick and hot, sunny weather. Given that G&G were holding a member's day starting at 2.30, a 9 am start was scheduled and, despite the one Parkstonian getting his road numbers muddled and heading into Guildford, all four singles started at or close to 9.30 which was pretty good.

Initial play gave Parkstone some hope (Tom Weston coping particularly well with the testing conditions) but Surbiton's somewhat stronger team recovered the advantage and emerged comfortable winners.

Stephen Mulliner (-2) beat David Harrison-Wood (-1.5) +10STP
Chris Patmore (-1.5) beat William Ormerod (-0.5) +14(t)
Samir Patel (-1.5) beat Strat Liddiard (-0.5) +23
Shane Davis (-1) beat Tom Weston (-0.5) +7TP

Having decided the match shortly after noon, the consensus was to retire to The Withies for lunch and refreshments and be well positioned for the end of the Opens at St Andrews.

Many thanks to G&G and especially Mike Huxley and Tony Mrozinski for setting out the courts and reseating the hoops.
