John Davis won the 9th Belgian Open

[<<] [>>] by Allan Morris at Genval
10th August 2005 (International)

John Davis convincingly won the 9th Belgian Open Championship at Genval, Brussels this past weekend. 18 minutes into the tournament he had already won the "yard-line" of triple-brewed Belgian ales (triple-peeling prize) by defeating Ian Price +14tp. In at least 2 other games his triple-peel attempts very narrowly failed.

In the final John defeated Bruno Eeman +2, +5. In both games Bruno could not quite take full advantage when John's triple-peel attempts broke down.

Despite carrying a substantial tribute to Uruguayan good-living about the waist-line, Jonathan Lamb retained enough of his old form to beat Charles-Eric Vilain XIIII +5, +13 in the play-off for 3rd place.

John Swabey held off Alex Jardine to take the plate event.

Dinner in the Villa du Lac was suitably splendid and there was only 1 (minor) injury in the "Call My Bluff" type game which replaced the singing. (I'll say that again - THERE WAS NO SINGING!)

Next year's Belgian Open will be the 10th time that we have held the event. Suitable celebrations will be organised. It will take place on 5th & 6th of August (mark that in your diaries).
