Woodhall Spa beat Tyneside 4-3

Ripon Spa Hotel was the hosting club for the semi-final between Woodhall Spa and Tyneside in the Secretary's Shield.

A damp start to the day did not depress the teams competing. Woodhall Spa got off to a positive start in the first round, winning all three matches. Patricia Duke-Cox and David Eckford played the doubles against Sheila Watts and Don Wright, received 4.5 bisques and had a game that went to time with David pegging out before the opponents had their right of reply to win +4. Mike Bowser beat David Turner +10 whilst Nigel Harding beat Peter Wallace

After lunch, the Woodhall Spa team had determined opponents to play. David Eckford played his game very quickly to win +25 against Peter Wallace but Tyneside won the remaining singles games. The scores (with Woodhall Spa team listed first) were Mike Bowser lost to Sheila Watts -4, Patricia Duke-Cox lost to Don Wright -10 and Nigel Harding lost to David Turner -15.

Handicap change Patricia Duke-Cox from 10 to 11.

The Woodhall Spa team look forward to the final, a stage not reached by them before in this tournament.
