South-West German Open 2005

[<<] [>>] by Kevin Garrad at Limburgerhof-Kohlhof, Germany
24-25 Sep 2005 (International)

Six players (5 from all corners of Germany, plus yours truly) came together under glorious blue skies at the weekend, at a golfing club just outside Mannheim, for the third running of the Sud-West Deutsches Open Meisterschaft.

The lawns were the customary golf-club gang-mown variety, and although slow, were eminently playable. Hospitality was cordial with plenty of food, beer and even water(?!) for when the autumn sunshine took it's toll (temperatures of 24C).

The winner was the organiser/manager Bruno Hess who took home 4 bottles of local Riesling (trocken of course!), and who won all of his 5 games, although by progressively lower margins. Second (and taking home 3 bottles) was Kevin Garrad (4/5) with Alexander Kirsten from Leipzig in third place (3/5).

My thanks to the Deutsches Krokett Bond for organising a fine tournament. It's just a pity that there weren't more players.
