Golf Croquet Open Championships

18th May 2006 (GC - Championships)

Due to the increased number of entries for the singles event this year, we have had to impose an upper limit of 30 players to ensure that we can maintain a reasonable playing schedule of best-of-three un-timed games with the number of lawns available. Even so this will mean that some of the earlier block rounds will have to be double banked. Consideration will have to be given to using an extra day in future years.

As the event was not oversubscribed at the allocation date, the use of ranking position can not be used to determine entry and all entries received to date have been accepted. Entry now stands at 30 and any further entries will be placed on a waiting list in order of receipt. We are pleased to include two overseas players in our list for this year; Tony Hall from Australia and Evan Newall from Ireland. The format will be five blocks of six, with the top two in each block going through to a knockout round. Block positions will be determined by the procedure published in the Tournament Regulations if block position cannot be determined by number of wins directly. The first round of the knock out will comprise two matches only between four of the five second placed players in each block, the four being decided by draw.

Allocation to blocks will be made from ranking position in the tables published immediately after the Ramsgate tournament. The blocks will not be redrawn even if there are substitutions at the last minute. Players not shown in the rankings due to lack of games will be placed in accordance with their estimated ranking within the system

The entrants are in alphabetical order are:

Bill Arliss Kevin Ham Jacqueline Old
Reg Bamford Mark Hamilton David Openshaw

Richard Brand Nelson Morrow Chris Sheen

The entries for the doubles now stands at 12 pairs and up to 20 pairs can be accommodated if there are further entries. The format will be a 6 round Swiss with one hour time limits. In the event of a tie in number of wins, the Tournament Director will reserve the right to require a playoff if practicable.

Tournament Director
