11th March 2007
(International)
The 2007 European Golf Croquet Championship will be held at the Budleigh Salterton Croquet Club in Budleigh Salterton, Devon in England from Wednesday 13 to Saturday 16 June 2007.
The Club will be open to competitors for practice on Monday and Tuesday.
Entry Details
Entries will be limited to 32. Approximately 20 places are expected to be taken up by guaranteed places which leaves plenty of room for additional entries before the 32 limit is reached. The FEC has the right to hold back up to 4 places as wild cards.
In any case, if there are more than 32 entries, a qualifying tournament will be held at the venue on Tuesday, 12 June and those who do not qualify will be able to play in the Plate event. In these circumstances, the choice of who will have to qualify will be made by the FEC and will be based on playing strength, using the International Golf Croquet Rankings as at 24 February 2007.
Championship Format
The Championship will consist of a preliminary stage of 4 blocks of 8 to produce a Championship knock-out of 16.
Those who do not qualify for the Championship knock-out will be able to enter a knock-out Plate. All losers will be able (but not obliged) to continue playing so that a full ladder of 32 positions will be produced.
All matches will be best-of-three 13 point games.
10 lawns will be used and some double-banking will be used in the preliminary stage.
The entry fee is £30 and may be paid at the event.
Transport
Transport from London to Exeter, which is less than 12 miles (20 km) from Budleigh, is easy by air, rail or coach. Or you can hire your own car and drive - about 3 hours by the M4 and M5 motorways, longer if you wish to take a more scenic route and enjoy the countryside of Southern England at its most attractive.
It is intended that competitors will be collected from Exeter Airport, Exeter Railway Station or Exeter Coach Station if they give advance notice to the Club. Contact details will be provided nearer the time.
Accommodation
Bed & breakfast and hotel accommodation is available. Please see the attached list. Early booking is recommended.
Championship Dinner
A Championship Dinner will be held in the Clubhouse on the evening of Saturday, 16 June.
