Reg Bamford retained the Golf Croquet Open Championship title

[<<] [>>] by Bill Arliss
25th June 2007 (GC - Championships)

Although Stephen Mulliner was expected to meet Reg in the semi final, Tim King upset the expectations by beating Stephen in the first round of the knockout and met Reg in the quarter finals, only to be despatched in two straight games. This left the way open for Marcus Evans, who had won his first two rounds, to meet with Reg in the first semi final.

This proved to be one of the best matches of the championship with Reg being pushed very hard to gain a 2-1 victory.

In the bottom half of the draw David Hopkins and Evan Newell had quite a struggle which eventually gave 'Hoppy' a place in the final.

Hoppy started his campaign very well in the first game and established a 4-2 lead but with his precision clearances Reg managed to reclaim the lead to take the first game. Reg quickly established a lead in the second game to take the title by 7-3.
