The Dragon roars - Wales is Mitsubishi Motors European Teams Champion

Wales won the first Mitsubishi European Team Championship at Cheltenham yesterday and are now World and European Champions, having won the World 14-point Team Championships in Milan in 2000.

Behind in all three matches overnight Jersey fought back to take each match to a decider. Chris Williams was first to peg out to put Wales one up, but was followed about 15 seconds later by Ian Burridge, which put Wales into an unassailable 2-0 lead. David Walters completed the 3-0 win with a decisive 7-1 win in the Golf Croquet.

Ian Burridge beat Tony Le Moignan +10, -7, +18
Chris Williams beat Sarah Burrow +16, -2, +19
David Walters beat Matt Burrow 7-4, 2-7, 7-4, 5-7, 7-1

Sweden won the Plate defeating Germany 2-1

Simon Carlsson beat Bruno Hess +6
Joi Elebo lost to Wolfgang Usbeck -21
Jorgen Larsson beat Thomas Magin 7-3, 4-2
