Kent won the Golf Croquet Inter-County Championship

Southwick again proved excellent hosts to the counties. This year a record entry of 10 teams finally assembled to do battle.

The format was American Block with the top 4 going forward to the semi-finals, the remaining teams playing in 2 blocks for places 5-7 and 8-10.

In the blocks, Kent swept all before them, winning all 9 games to top the block. Dorset with 6 wins was second. Oxfordshire finished third with 5 match wins and 16 game points. Fourth place went to Surrey with 5 wins and 13 game points ahead of Sussex on 5 and 12.5. With a requirement to tightly manage play over the weekend playing conditions were to play to time limits 55-min singles and 60 min doubles with 8 shots after time, scores that were level after time were recorded as a tie. Of the 135 block games, only three went to time.

Oxfordshire 5-1 Dorset
Kent 4-2 Surrey

Final

Kent 3.5-2.5 Oxfordshire

Kent retained the title and Oxfordshire maintained their position in second place.
