Ian Lines won the Coles Championship

Ian Lines beat Reg Bamford -14sxp +20 +26tp -13 +26tp on Lawn 8 at Cheltenham yesterday. Ian remembers the match: Hoops and lawns both relatively easy, varying between 9 and 10 Plummers.

Game 1

Ian wins toss and chooses to go first.

1. Ian to EB.
2. Reg layers 9 yard duffer tice.
3. Ian hits duffer and has DS.
4. Reg misses into C4.
5. Ian to 4b with DS.
6. Reg misses long lift into C4.
7. Ian plans delayed tp, but striker's ball lands on wire of 4 when playing a croquet stroke out of C4 going to hoop 4 pioneer that was 4 feet NW of hoop - had to retire to boundary leaving 7 yarder for Reg.
8. Reg to 1b.
9. Ian misses tea-lady.
10. Reg finishes with very tidy sxp to win +14sxp.

Game 2

Reg chooses to go first.

1. Reg lays supershot.
2. Ian to maximum length on EB.
3. Reg misses into C4.
4. Ian misses partner from A baulk.
5. Reg misses Ian on EB with supershot ball.
6. Ian makes hoop 1, fails to do decent rush so lays up near hoop 3, with Reg near hoop 2 (and C4).
7. Reg misses 14 yard shot at Ian with his ball near hoop 2.
8. Ian to 4b with attempted DS, but misses 2 yard cut rush on partner to EB.
9. Reg to 1b.
10. Ian given lift as 4b ball has hampered backswing, so goes to peg with DS.
11. Reg misses.
12. Ian finishes to win +20.

Game 3

Ian chooses to go first

1. Ian to EB.
2. Reg lays 11 yard duffer tice.
3. Ian misses duffer ending up near peg.
4. Reg hits duffer, but sticks in hoop 1 leaving Ian a 4 yarder.
5. Ian hits and goes to 4b with DS.
6. Reg misses short lift.
7. Ian finishes with standard tp to win +26tp.

Game 4

Reg chooses to go first.

1. Reg lays supershot.
2. Ian to 1 foot S of C2.
3. Reg misses 1 foot to the left.
4. Ian misses as well.
5. Reg to 1b with a POP.
6. Ian hits tea-lady with hoop 1 ball and goes to 4b with flat DS.
7. Reg hits long lift, and gets to peg with 4 peels done of attempted sxp. Left himself in C1 and C4, with Ian 10 yards apart on EB.
8. Ian takes contact but just lays up in C3.
9. Reg misses from C4 to C1 with penult ball.
10. Ian takes 4b ball to peg but leave is poor (Reg 10 yards apart near WB, Ian joined up on EB).
11. Reg hits and finishes to win +13.

Game 5

Ian chooses to go first.

1. Ian to EB.
2. Reg lays 12 yard duffer tice.
3. Ian hits duffer and has DS.
4. Reg misses into C4.
5. Ian to 4b with DS (laying up level with hoop 4).
6. Reg misses short lift.
7. Ian finishes with tidy standard tp to win +26tp.
