Belsay Hall lost to Ashby 1-6

[<<] [>>] by Christine Mounfield at Belsay Hall
25th May 2008 (GC - Inter-Club)

Losing the "toss" gave Ashby golf croquet players the chance to play their Inter-Club first round tie in the beautiful surroundings of Belsay Hall.

The English Heritage "protected" turf (cut only once a week and never weed-killed!) and slightly smaller dimensions of the two courts didn't prove too inhibiting and the morning's play saw Ashby leading 3 - 0. Luckily, the Bank Holiday downpour didn't reach Northumbria, so after a delightful al fresco lunch generously provided by our hosts, play recommenced. Belsay took one of the remaining four singles, leaving Ashby to go forward to the next round.

Ashby players were pleased with the outcome of their 400 mile round-trip to Belsay (done by Tim in one day!) but are hopeful of winning the toss against East Sussex and hosting them at Moira in the next round.
