Report

With a display of grit, determination and absolute refusal to be beaten, Maggie Holland maintained a 100% record to become the first lady winner of the event for 12 years. The crucial game was in the fourth round when Maggie defeated the previous holder, Stephen Stuart-Matthews, plus one on time, leaving her in pole position. A more comfortable game in the final round sealed the victory, Maggie's first tournament win. Ten players from as far south west as Cornwall and as far north west as Southport and Birkdale contested the Chapman Challenge Cup.

2008's summer finally came good! The tournament was held in glorious, settled, sunny and calm weather. How often could reporters say that this year? The downside was that the chocolate digestives melted!
