Trevor Wood of Ilkley U3A Croquet Club won the Grass Roots Cup.

The final was keenly fought between Trevor Wood (Ilkley U3A) and John Edwards (Broadwas Worcester); Trevor winning 7-3 to take the Grass Roots Cup with John, Anne Dennis (Watford Cassiobury) and Geoff Johnson (Watford Cassiobury) taking second, third and fourth places respectively.

The finalists who won through to the National Finals came from Broadwas Worcester, Eynsham, Gainsborough, Ilkley U3A, Plymouth, Reigate Priory, Watford Cassiobury and Woodhall Spa and it was pleasing to see clubs entering for the first time in the competition.

After playing seven rounds of progressive doubles the top four players played the best of 13 hoop semi-finals and finals.

Earlier in the season, club matches had taken place with overall seventy competitors vying for places at the area finals and the National Final.

The final took place on aa rare sun soaked day at Northampton CC. Thanks were expressed to Northampton CC for their hospitality and for arranging for a dry and sunny day!
