Barry Marsh won the Bristol Handicap Tournament

[<<] [>>] by Bob Scott at Bristol
9-10 May 2009 (AC - Handicap)

12 players contested for the cup and were divided into two blocks of six. Good use was made of the Bray system and each player completed five games before the block winners could be established.

In the "Avonmouth" block, Kathy Wallace from Nailsea CC and Bob Scott from Bristol CC both had 4 wins each but on the 'who beat who' Bob was deemed block winner and was given a place in the final. In the "Bishopston" block only Barry Marsh from Dyffryn CC achieved 4 wins so he and Bob contested the final. Barry was in good form and was soon well ahead and won the final by 19 points.

A third place contest also took place between the two block runners up. Kathy played Robert Moss from Bear of Rodborough CC. Robert was the holder of the cup but had made a slow start to the tournament. Unfortunately he was not able to gain the advantage over Kathy who eventually won the final prize of the day, a nice bottle of red wine.
