Day 2 at Surbiton

[<<] [>>] by Chris Clarke
4th July 2001 (World Championship)

I was banished to my home club of Surbiton today. Traffic caused play to start after 10.30 and so allowed the lawns to start to quicken. Suter broke down on a straight rover peel to give Aiton all the balls on 1 and 4-back, but this chance was wasted. Bryant had the same disaster against Mrozinski who took full advantage to win 3tp.

Clarke and Gibbons started at 12.30 on lawn 2 and after 3 hours the surprise result of +13 to Gibbons was recorded.

Jonathan Lamb took Greg Bryant close, going down by 4 on the tricky lawn 2 which had already seen Bruce Fleming lose to Tudor and Openshaw lose to Ronan McInerney.

Aiton won an important game against Cunningham to take a good position in the block.

The last games started at 19.50 but slower conditions meant that play was still completed.

Elsewhere, I understand that Fulford had a couple of sextuples and Bamford had three more triples.
