Bamford and Mulliner retained their GC Open Doubles Title

Fourteen pairs contested the Open GC Doubles on Southwick's very sunny lawns. The field was split into two blocks, one of six and one of eight to prevent two pairs having a bye each round. The six block was all play all whilst the eight block played a five round Swiss. John Spiers with partner Nick Butler won the six block whilst Reg Bamford and Stephen Mulliner won the Swiss.

The top two in each block contested the knockout with second placed pairs David Hopkins and Carol Jackson losing to Reg and Stephen whilst John and Nick despatched Roy Ware and James Goodbun in single nineteen point games.

The final was played as a best of three thirteen point games. In was honours even in the first two games, both with 7-6 scorelines but in the final game Reg and Stephen gained an early lead and completed their victory on the ninth hoop. Reg, a man never to do things by half, also ran hoop ten with the final stroke of the game.
