2 May 2010 (GC)

Howard Cheyne won the Roehampton Golf Croquet Open Tournament, beating Chris Sheen in the final 7-4. 7-5. Ryan Cabble won the Plate, beating Bob Ellis 7-1

The event attracted a strong entry with the maximum 16 players. It was good to see a number of strong younger players doing well. On the second day we arrived to find the lawns under water and likely that only one would become playable during the morning. So thanks to Surbiton Club we moved the event. There one lawn was playable and after about a hour of Squeegy activity we had two others availavble. We were able to finish the event although both quarter finals and semi finals were played as 19 point games rather than best of three. We were also treated to a great lunch thanks to Don Beck and Freda Vitty who prefered to cook rather than play in the plate in the cold and rain.

On the first day two blocks of eight were completed. Block A was won by John Spiers with 6/7 withTim King5/7 in second place and Howard Cheyne and Richard Thompson also qualifying with 4/7. Block B was won by James Goodbun 6/7, with Chris Sheen and Will Gee on 5/7 amnd Nick Cheyne on 4/7.
