Report

The lawns were running at 12 - 12.5 Plummers, with solid, tight (1/32") hoops, although they became more forgiving as the day went on. The early games were a bit scrappy, as players adjusted to the conditions, particularly the manager's worst case result of +1(t) in the single first round match. The top seeds soon found there form though, and all first matches finished 2-0 with ranking, with triples from Samir Patel and Jeff Dawson. Andrew Johnson took on a brave TPO against Jamie Burch, only for Jamie to finish from the contact. The late quarter final finsihed at lunchtime on Saturday with Jonathan Hills beating Chris Farthing, in an interactive match.

The semi-finals, played best of 5, were interactive affairs. Jeff started well, hitting straight to capitalise on Samir's errors to take the first and a commanding position in the second. After a break for lunch, however, Samir regained some form and recovered to sneak the second +3 before taking charge to win the remaining games without Jeff making a further hoop. In the other semi, Jonathan found that Jamie was more ruthless with his errors, and while he got several chances, didn't manage to convert them, losing in straight games.

The final was closely contested, marked by excellent shooting by Jamie Burch (I only counted three misses in the entire match), varied leaves from Samir and a fair number of POPs from both players. Tight hoops and fast lawns (12+ seconds) created their fair share of interaction, particularly at hoop 1 (although 3 and 3-back also contributed). In the end, Samir Patel came out on top, beating Jamie Burch -25tp +5 +16tp -12 +16tp.
